About us

Porteous Architecture LLP is an award winning Chartered Architects practice established in 2010 by husband and wife team Duncan and Fiona Porteous as practice partners. We have two offices, one in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis and another at Talla na Mara in the Isle of Harris. We also have a studio at our home in Achmore.

The islands are a wild and beautiful place and we work closely with our clients to respond to this extreme environment with buildings that work poetically and economically with the natural landscape and unique cultural identity in a sustainable and contemporary way.

Creating the practice was the culmination of many years of experience working both at home and in the U.S. focusing mainly upon bespoke houses and high end cultural tourism projects.

Returning to the islands we have adapted this experience to suit the Hebridean environment. We are approachable and responsive to clients and use a collaborative and sensitive approach to create individual and bespoke buildings with a variety of budgets.

Honey

Honey our official office dog is the latest addition to the team. We're trying to teach her SketchUp at the moment, but she prefers a wee afternoon nap.

In addition to being a skilled and experienced architect, Duncan brings the inherent knowledge of a maker to a project. He has handmade his own houses for several years and fuses creativity with buildability.

Together we form a creative and pragmatic balanced team that can take your project from dream to reality.
